The East Palo Alto Community Archive was honored to participate in the East Palo Alto–Kolofo’ou Sister Cities Engagement Week held May 10–15, 2026.
As part of the week’s activities, a delegation from the District of Kolofo’ou visited the Archive at EPACENTER for a presentation on the history of East Palo Alto and the development of the East Palo Alto Community Archive. Delegation members expressed
interest in learning more about preserving and documenting Kolofo’ou’s history and cultural heritage for future generations.
The delegation was led by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tuku’aho. The visit was coordinated through the Anamatangi Polynesian Voices Sister Cities Initiative, which has played a significant role in fostering cultural connections, hospitality,
and people-to-people relationships between East Palo Alto and the Kingdom of Tonga.
Anamatangi’s leadership and longstanding cultural ties helped lay the foundation for this historic partnership. Following the 2022 volcanic eruption and tsunami in Tonga, Anamatangi mobilized community support and coordinated relief efforts that resulted in
five containers of essential aid being sent to affected communities. These humanitarian efforts strengthened relationships and trust between the two communities, ultimately contributing to the establishment of the first-ever Sister City Agreement between the
City of East Palo Alto and the District of Kolofo’ou.
