On Friday, February 28, you will have the opportunity to hear from Black leaders who will share their stories of overcoming challenges and what it takes to continue fighting for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. EPACenter will host the event at 1950 Bay Road, East Palo Alto. The reception will begin at 4:30 p.m., and the program will start at 5:30 p.m. This is a FREE event open to the public. EPA Community Archive, JobTrain, and the City of East Palo Alto are co-sponsors of the event.
On the Shoulders of Giants will feature a panel with Bob Hoover, an East Palo Alto community activist and youth leader; Dr. Omowale Satterwhite, the “father” of East Palo Alto; and Dr. Clayborne Carson, an author and former Director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University. The panel will be moderated by former East Palo Alto Mayor Regina Wallace Jones.
The event is will be inspirational at a time when there is an effort to reverse any gains made by African Americans. These men were at the forefront of the movement for civil rights, including the 1963 March on Washington. They are a part of our “living legacy” of Black America and will share their experiences, giving us lessons we can use to guide us as we navigate the next several years of challenges.
